Biomedical Engineering
Marcos completed his MEng in Biomedical Engineering and is interested in pursuing a career in biomechanics and biomaterials - his final year project was on characterising the threshold spinal injury caused by vibration. A talented musician and an avid sportsman, Marcos plays the saxophone and piano, earning him the title of Young Musician of the Year while in high school and, while at Imperial, he was a member of the College Baseball and Softball Club.
I received unending support throughout my university journey, financially, personally and academically, and made many new connections and gained valuable work experiences.
Marcos's highlights
As part of his studies, Marcos worked on design projects that included inventing a pre-syncope detection device to prevent falls and a pregnancy test for visually impaired users. Marcos interned with Dart’s business innovation lab, researching the Internet of Things to monitor parking count, and creating a user survey for a new mobile phone app. Other work experience included monitoring energy efficiency of HVAC system with Dart’s property management team and working with Health Services Authority’s facilities management team to service and repair medical equipment at George Town Hospital.
Marcos is still thinking about his future and is exploring a career in orthopaedic biomechanics, in vivo materials or sustainable materials. His dream is to innovate something someday and maybe even start his own company.
