Jon-Marc Thomas
2024 High School Scholar
St Ignatius Catholic School
Jon-Marc is a Year 10 student at St. Ignatius Catholic School who graduated as valedictorian of his class of 2021 at Truth for Youth School.
Jon-Marc aims to excel in his studies, particularly in his areas of interest - science and mathematics - while also maintaining a strong football game so he has choices in the path that he takes in his future. He also enjoys other sports, including baseball, tennis, swimming, cricket, basketball, volleyball and flag football. He admires his mother for her inspirational work ethic, which he has taken on board and believes will help him excel in his chosen career path and help those around him achieve success.
For me, STEM is the backbone for the advancement of technology and healthcare - it challenges our thinking but more so provides solutions for all spheres of life.
Jon-Marc's highlights
While undecided for his future career path, Jon-Marc loves science and mathematics, and is interested in exploring medicine and scientific research or technology and mechanical engineering.
“I love to find solutions to life’s everyday problems, and mathematics has helped me with my critical thinking skills,” he said. “I hate to see people suffering with health issues for which there is no cure - I want to know how things work and why they work.”
Jon-Marc most looks forward to the mentorship opportunities that the Dart Scholar programme will provide him, and he hopes to take full advantage of Dart Scholar’s enrichment activities and summer work placements through Dart’s Work-X programme. He aims to be a good example to his peers and believes that with training, guidance and support he will make a positive impact in the community in the future.
