John Gray High School 

 

J-Mar is a Year 10 student at John Gray High School who, this year, was selected for the school’s CSEC Goal Accelerated Programme (GAP).

J-Mar aims to graduate from John Gray High School with High Honours, in particular focusing on his mathematical skills. In addition to his academic interests in maths, physics and linguistics, J-Mar enjoys writing poetry, playing steel pan and participating in martial arts. He is a member of the John Gray High School Key Club and Steel Band. He admires his father as a positive role model who always inspires him to work harder.

The [scholarship] will help me by providing financial support as well as opportunities to enhance my skillset through work experience. It will add to my extrinsic motivation to do well in my academics and student life.

Describing himself as motivated and hard-working, J-Mar aims to study mathematical engineering in the future, eventually pursuing a PhD in mathematics.

“Being chosen to do CXC mathematics earlier than usual helped me to realise that [maths] is something I wanted my future career to use,” said J-Mar. It also made me realise that my hard work would open up opportunities for me in the future - the harder I work, the more people will recognise my talents.”
