Our 2017 summer enrichment trip took a different shape to previous years. It was a unique opportunity that gave our Dart Scholars the chance to study a two-week intensive course at Oxford Scholastica Academy based at the Oxford University campus in the UK.

By combining Oxford University-style teaching with practical challenges and debates, the Young Doctor’s Academy course helped our students to dive deeper into their subject area.

Halfway through our student’s Young Doctor’s Academy course, they were given challenges to put their clinical skills to the test — it was the highlight of the course for our Dart Scholars.

The Young Doctor's Academy course

During the Young Doctor’s Academy course, our students were able to:

• Practice clinical skills

  • Study the theory behind medicine
  • Meet real patients in a Mock Clinic Challenge

  • Develop other work and interpersonal skills

  • Build friendships 

  • Such as giving injections, examining the retina, dissecting a kidney and reading X-rays. 

• Study the theory behind medicine
  • Learn about medical specialisms, from cardiology and respiratory medicine to psychiatry and neurology — and more.
• Meet real patients in a Mock Clinic Challenge
  • Learn how to interview a patient and take their medical history.
• Develop other work and interpersonal skills
  • In Masterclasses for public speaking, critical thinking and teamwork.
• Build friendships
  • By meeting and befriending fellow students from all over the world — and joining our alumni community.

Because of the excellent design and content of the OSA Young Doctor’s Academy course, our Dart Scholars got to understand so much more about the medical field that they were interested in.

What’s more, at the end of the Young Doctor’s Academy course, our students got to attend a Graduation Ceremony at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, each receiving a Graduation Certificate and personalised Letter of Recommendation from their course tutor.

For our Dart Scholar students, the OSA experience at Oxford was the perfect environment to begin their career journey and to enrich and nurture their interests. Oxford Universities’ tradition of scientific excellence and discovery was the ideal setting for the students to experience university campus life and the city’s rich history, culture and architecture — all while studying a subject close to their ambitions. What more could you ask of an enrichment trip? Both of our Dart Scholars who attended the 2017 enrichment trip to Oxford were studying in Europe to complete their post-graduate degrees in their chosen fields of medicine.
